Work by DREAMers and a colleague from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology is the subject of a Northern Research Station Highlight from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Forest Service. Emilie Champagne, Patricia Raymond, Alejandro A. Royo, James D. M. Speed, Jean-Pierre Tremblay, and Steeve Côté conducted a review of ungulate impacts on the success of climate-adapted forest management strategies. Out of the 57 relevant studies found, 35 reported that deer browsing was a threat to their climate adaptation project. According to the reviewers, this could result in accelerating the loss of tree species vulnerable to climate change and also limit the establishment of planted climate-adapted trees. They conclude that the impact of large ungulates should be considered when planning climate adaptation strategies, otherwise they could result in failure.
