A team of foresters from the USDA’s Murphysboro regional office have started collecting seeds intended for the first experimental site of DREAM-Wisconsin. Eileen Eck, Doug Senf, and Brad Studebaker have been collecting acorns from bur and white oak trees over the last few days and intend to also collect hickory and maple seeds later in the fall. The collected seeds will be sent to the Wilson State Forest Nursery of the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources where they will be used to produce seedlings that will later be planted on the Pine Popple research site located in the Wild Rivers Legacy Forest. Future sites in the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest are also planned.
